The effector is an audio peripheral device that processes and produces various sound effects. It is generally used to process the vocal time. In most sound systems, if the human voice is not processed by the effector, it will become full and brightness.
1. Related acoustic principles
An indoor sound field can be roughly divided into three kinds of sound: the first is direct sound: the second is early reflection sound; the third is reverb sound.
Direct sound
The sound that our ears directly hear is the direct sound. This is well understood. Only when we are near the sound source can we hear as much direct sound as possible. In the propagation process, the direct sound is not affected by the indoor reflective interface. Now we need to use as much direct sound from the speaker as possible in the sound field design to reasonably control the reflected sound, but only to achieve a perfect effect.
Early reflections
It refers to the sound after one, two or several reflections through the interface around the sound field after the sound is emitted in a sound field. The delay time between the early reflected sound and the direct sound will not exceed 70ms, and the ear will exceed 70ms. You can hear the flanger and reverb. In the sound field, the appropriate early reflections can make the sound thicker and fuller.
Reverb
Reverb sound is the sound that arrives after the early reflections and is reflected multiple times through the interface of the sound field. Appropriate reverberation can make the sound have different environmental senses, which is helpful to improve the fullness of the sound; too strong reverberation will destroy the clarity of the sound. The above is some basic acoustic knowledge. In short, in a sound field, under normal circumstances, we should first hear the direct sound, then the early reflection sound, and finally the reverb sound.
二、Digital effect function and parameter adjustment
In a sound field, it is very difficult to change some parameters of the reverb in the sound field by building sound, but it is easy to have a digital effect, although the reverb sound processed by the digital effect may not be comparable to the sound field. Natural reverberation, but after all, digital effects can flexibly adjust the parameters of direct sound, early reflection and reverberation time, so now digital effects have become an indispensable audio peripheral equipment.
There are too many parameters in the effect device, and there will be no way to learn when adjusting, but in fact, according to the above acoustic principle, for the processing of human voice, we only need to focus on adjusting the following parameters.
1、Pre-delay adjustment
Refers to the time interval between the early reflected sound and the direct sound, the pre-delay time in different sound fields is different. When the pre-delay of the effect device is adjusted to be larger, you can obtain a large space, a wider and empty effect, such as the hall effect. Of course, it should not be too long, otherwise it will affect the clarity of the sound. The adjustment time is generally 30ms to 70ms.
2、Reverberation time adjustment
Reverberation time refers to the time required for the sound pressure level to decrease by 60dB after a sound stops sounding in a sound field. The reverberation time is also larger; it is also related to the sound absorption coefficient of the materials used in the sound and the furnishings. The higher the sound absorption coefficient, the greater the sound energy absorbed and the shorter the reverberation time. Now digital effects can be easily adjusted for reverberation time, generally between 1.8s-2.4s during normal performance.
3、The ratio of direct sound to reverb sound;
When this ratio is 100%, the effect sound is the most; at 50%, the direct sound and the effect sound each account for half; at 0%, the direct sound is completely, and the effect device at this time has no effect output. It is generally appropriate to adjust this ratio between 85% and 97%. Due to the wide variety of effects, it is almost impossible to summarize a simple adjustment mode, but there are some rules in the cold, for example, most of the effects we can try VOCAL vocals without finding a better effect program Mode or DELAY & REVERB delay + reverb mode, especially the C-MARK series of effects, in the vocal effect processing, as long as the vocal mode is called, the parameter adjustment of the effect is very simple.
